About Mascara

I just posted my best mascara tip on A Sweet Day Emporium. I'm so impressed by this trick I think everyone should know it!

A Special Announcement

As I said before I'm not expecting another baby yet. But my next project could become like a baby to me. Pretty soon I'll be opening up an Etsy Shop. I'm definitely excited about it and I've been thinking about it for a while. My goal is to have the shop up and running sometime in May. To go along with the shop I'm changing my blog. I will no longer be blogging here at Absolutely Cheesy. The name of the shop will be A Sweet Day Emporium and so will the new blog. As you will see I started on the new blog back in March. I've been procrastinating a little bit out of nervousness, but no longer! I'm ready to get going! I'm going to keep up this blog until I move all the tutorials over to the new one. My first post will be this Friday and you won't want to miss it as it will be a revised easier tutorial for fabric applique onesies. I have a lot in store and I'm so excited to share it with you! Have a Sweet Day!

Hello blog friends. The fam and I are off on a quickie trip to Sacramento. Will be back Tuesday with a fun announcement (No I'm not having another baby.) Have a great weekend!

Have an Awesome Weekend!

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend. If you get bored check out this blog called 1000 Awesome Things. I got a little addicted to it today. It's awesome!I know. Totally random picture. The car on the right was the car we rented on our honeymoon. And quite frankly it was just awesome!

Crib Bumper

I just mailed off a crib bumper that I made for a good friend. This is the second one that I have made and it is so much better than the one I made for my little girl. She has really great taste & chose dang cute fabric. I think it turned out pretty good.I tried it out on my daughter's crib so please ignore the fact that there is no sheet (her's was pink so I took it off). What I did was I bought a plane white bumper from Babies-R-Us and made a cover for it. Trust me it's much easier that way. I'll take pictures sometime soon of my daughters so you can see the difference.

Post Baby Bummers

I have had horrible skin since I've stopped nursing. So bad in fact that for a split second I wanted to get pregnant again so that it will go away. However my husband vetoed that. I've struggled finding a grocery store cleanser that can do the job. I no longer have any S.D. products and they are too expensive for me to purchase at this time. I need to find something that I can pick up while I'm out running errands and that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I've tried Neutrogena, and Boots but to no avail. So last week we ran out of astringent and I found this at Target...I forgot all about Noxema products. It seems like a lot of my friends in high school used Noxema, but I haven't heard about it in forever. I figured that my skin is acting like it's 16 though so I'll give it a try. Well wouldn't you know it's working! I'm going back for the cleanser tomorrow!

A Little Present To Myself

I ran out of Mascara this week. I'm borderline obsessed with finding the perfect mascara. As of today I still hadn't found it. Then I decided to splurge. I figured since it's my birthday I would treat myself to this...
My life is changed forever. Dior Show Black Out is the best mascara I have ever put on my lashes. I will never go back. I heard the original Dior Show was great so I went to buy that. I left with this instead after trying this on one eye and the original on the other. I also hear Iconic is fantastic as well. Might try that one in the future. What can I say sometimes a girl just needs to treat herself!

Thank You Google Reader!

I'm pretty sure I'm late to the game on this one. However maybe there is someone out there who is as late as I am and this post is for you. Google Reader is this fantastic internet tool that helps you organize the blogs you frequently read. It's quick and very easy to use. You list (or "subscribe" to) all the blogs you read in one place and then it tells you when there is a new post. So instead of going into each and every site individually you just log into your account and and see which sites have new posts. Saving you a little bit of time everyday. Because if you are anything like me you might look at quite a few blogs. There are actually a few of these types of sites out there and I have tried one other. I just find Google Reader to be easiest so far. Go there, watch the info video, and it will all make sense as to why to use it!

Garden Gnomes

Ever since my daughter was a garden gnome for Halloween I have been slightly in love with them. I love Heather Ross' Garden Gnome Fabric, and I have had some fun playing with the Garden Gnome Name Generator. But this takes the cake!Found on Etsy @ BROOKLYNNrehab

I love him! I want him! I need him!

Twitter

I've been making fun of it for the last two weeks. I didn't get it. I didn't see a need for yet another on-line networking site. In fact yesterday I got fed up with it all so I canceled my MySpace account, Facebook, and a few other things that I never used anyway. I decided to concentrate on my blogs. Especially the one that has been a little neglected lately (that would be this one). But somehow today I got lured into Twitter. The one site that I thought was the most rediculous. You see I had an idea. Lately I've been concentrating on the wrong things. So I'm going to use Twitter as sort of my own happiness project. Short positive messages to myself (and whoever wants to follow). I'm not quite sure what I'm doing or where this will lead. But I hope it helps me keep the right perspective! You can follow me here.

I Know It's Been a While!

But you're going to have to wait just a little longer. I have some big plans in the making, and I can't wait to reveal them to you. But it's going to have to wait. Until then please be patient with the lack of anything interesting here.Right now I'm obsessed with this tiny pot that I bought at Target for a dollar. It came with soil and strawberry seeds. It is my very first project in growing things. My Mom and sister are fabulous gardeners. Growing up we always had fresh veggies and berries to munch on in the summer and fall. My Grandma also tended a garden, but hers was chock full of the most beautiful roses. Someday when I have a house I hope I will find the time to garden. Until then I will keep an eye on my tiny sprouts above.

Aaaarrgh!!!

Seriously what are the producers of American Idol doing?!!!? They put some pretty irritating/horrible people through to the top 36. I almost went on strike but then I remembered that there are some people I'm anxious to see do well. But honestly Tatiana, Norman Gentle?!? What are they thinking.

I have to say I appreciate the new judge Kara. She seems way more put together and normal than Paula. So far she seems like a legitimate opinion. We shall see how this season goes. Could be good... but it could be a train wreck too.

2.09.2009

Why?

So I bet your wondering why I have gone so long with out a crafting post. A tutorial? A project? A giveaway? Well this is why.Pretty embarrassing I must say. This is my craft closet (and coat closet. And whatever else we can't find storage for closet.), and it has looked like this since Christmas. Needless to say I haven't been able to find anything in it, and I'm too scared to actually get in there and clean it. Scared or lazy? Well guess what my project is for this week. That's right! I'm going to get this baby organized. So hopefully by next week I'll have another little something to share with you!

Boo

Our car got broken into last night. Our window was shattered but oddly enough nothing was stolen. I guess that's a good thing. I just feel a little violated about it.

January Update

In January I ran 20.87 miles. I walked 7 miles with my friends. I visited 2 new parks. I cooked 4 new recipes and 3 of them worked out. I made pancakes 2 times and Amish Baked Oatmeal once. I have successfully stayed on the Slim Fast Diet for one month (Ok so I cheat on the weekends). I drank at least 1 more glass of water a day than I usually do. I painted my nails 3 different times with three different colors. I cleaned out two closets. I watched too much T.V. but I did read 3 books. January was a great month.

There has been a couple of times this month when someone has asked me what I've been up to and after thinking for a second I just say not much. Well this is what I've been doing. It may seem boring to some, but these are the little things that make my life great. I'm slowly working on this list, to make sure I don't get caught up in all my many roles and keep a sense of self.

1.29.2009

No Longer

My favorite Magazine has decided to close it's doors. Last issue is in March. I had a year left on my two year subscription. I hate this dang economy! I would have gotten this until the day I died if I could have. And honestly wasn't January's issue stunning? I could have looked at it for hours on end.

Let's Talk TV

I heard a rumor and I'm not happy about. I'm hoping maybe some of you who are still in Los Angeles know a little bit more about this. Is Ugly Betty getting canceled?Oh I will be so sad if it is.

Also Reaper has only been picked up for a half season more. The other half is dependant on the ratings. So all of you with one of those dang little boxes on your TV why don't you start watching good shows like these two. Instead of crappy ones like Wife Swap and The Big Bang Theory.

Oh It's Monday

So it's my post on designer denim. Denim is a huge part of any woman's life right? I mean I probably wear jeans 5-6 days a week. The number one reason to spend some extra money on a good pair of jeans is obvious. You get what you pay for. And trust me I should know. For example let's say you find this cute pair of jeans at Forever 21 for $14.50. I know for a fact that for $14.50 the quality of the denim is going to be low and the craftsmanship will be even lower. You will get 3-6 months wear out of these tops. That is with taking care of them really well. Forever 21 might fit these pants on a model once maybe twice at the most. All they are concerned with is getting it done and on the shelves as fast as possible and for as cheap as they can.

Now take a look at a similar pair of jeans by Hudson that I found on bluefly.com for $112. So before you freak out (some of you are perfectly comfortable with this price I know, but I also know a lot of you aren't!) I can honestly tell you that they are worth that amount. For that amount of money you are getting top quality materials and craftsmanship. This style of jeans was probably fit on a model no less than 5-6 times before going to the manufacturers. This ensures that you are getting the best fitting and the most comfortable pair of jeans possible. You will get years of wear out of these jeans.

So when someone says you get what you pay for I know from my previous job how true that is. Designers spend a lot of time choosing their fabrics, making patterns, designing pockets, fitting their garments, researching trends, and much much more.

Ok not everyone can afford designer cloths. Especially with the economy the way it is. So here are my tips for you. Go to Nordstrom's, Macy's, any department store and try on different brands, styles, and washes. Find what looks best on you. Then get online and find it on sale. Ebay is a good place to look too. You can usually find some great deals. As with any article of clothing you buy you will want to spend a little extra on classic pieces that will last a long time. For those here today gone tomorrow trends go to Forever 21, H&M, and other less expensive stores.

I know! Two posts in one day!

It's just these are both great posts. I Never Grew Up is having the best giveaway ever! They are giving away a Twin Bumbleride Stroller. So get over there and enter yourselves!

PDA A OK!

So I hear there are people complaining about Pres. Obama and Michelle Obama's Public Displays of Affection. Seriously?!!?I find it refreshing to see our public figures showing the world how much they love each other. They treat each other like all couples should. President Obama your PDA is OK with me! Thank you for the example!

A Little About Me

So if you have ever read my profile you might be wondering what exactly does this girl do in the Fashion Industry? Well as it turns out nothing. I'm just having a hard time letting go of my last job. Right now I'm a stay at home Mom. Raising my wonderful daughter. Before she was born however I lived in Encino California. I worked for a Modeling Agency called Rage Models & Talent. I loved my job. It was a great place to work and I truly miss it. It's a full service modeling agency with a special niche. They corner the market in LA in what's called fit modeling (not to be confused with Fitness Modeling). A fit model is a model that goes out to the designers and acts as a live mannequin. Gone are the days that designers build their clothing on dress forms. Almost all designers make their garments with a fit model ensuring that you the consumer will get the best quality pieces possible. My job was to speak with the designers and determine which model would be the best possible fit for the job. Chances are if you've purchased jeans anytime over the past 15 years a Rage Model helped in creating them. It was a fascinating job and I learned a lot from working there.

So every now and then I will be posting some pearls of wisdom that I gleaned from my time in the fashion industry. I know I may not always look like the most stylish girl on the block. Primarily because it takes money to keep up. But I hope that some of you will be able to take something away from it. Next Monday I will be posting about Designer Denim. Why buy it?

I've got a bad case of Blogger's Block. I'll be back sometime next week. Until then...I'll be taking a cue from Pico. Trying to get in some R&R after the holiday madness!
